Someone asked me how we came up with a name - I thought I'd do a quick post, for those who love to wonder about these things...
Anyone who has come up with a name for a new product will agree it can take as long as a few minutes or days. (I'm still amazed how many new born children don't have a name at birth but that is another story)
Our new SEO Wizard took a very special day. On arriving to work to have a crack at it – I saw a piece on a new SEO program "SEO solo", I thought this was a clever name and described the program well, different to ours, given you have to become an SEO expert, nonetheless a catchy name and showed some thought.
So the challenge was on, and this had to be a very different name to our past experience as we were creating something that would need to appeal to business partners not customers. So it couldn’t be too retail, but we are all human so had to have instant recognition and ideally present an idea of what the potential reseller might expect.
We started with what we thought was most unique about the new program - the upgrade process. By offering free SEO tools we allow partners customers to be curious about SEO and their performance, the process then guides them to informed SEO solutions. Kind of like a virtual agent or software wizard!
Of course the naming process took a lot more mind mapping and thesaurus work before arriving at “wizard” but when we got there it was an “ah ha” moment.
As always we conducted a staff poll on a short list of names and yes – Wizard was the standout winner. Hopefully you think so too!
